Lucas Oil Center Raises $7,000 For Local Woman Fighting Breast Cancer

EVANSVILLE (December 5, 2022) – Every October, Lucas Oil Center recognizes Breast Cancer Awareness Month by selecting someone from the local community to fund raise for throughout October and assist them with the financial burden of treatments. The business participated in three fundraiser events – a donation collection at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN, a Give Back Day at both Lucas Oil Center East and West locations in Evansville, and a Haunted Car Wash the weekend of Halloween at the Evansville East location.

The 2022 fundraiser recipient was Angie Fields of Evansville. Angie was diagnosed with hormone-based, Stage 1 estrogen receptor (ER) positive breast cancer in March of 2022. The cells of this type of breast cancer have receptors that allow them to use the hormone estrogen to grow. Treatment with anti-estrogen hormone (endocrine) therapy can block the growth of the cancer cells. You can learn more about Angie’s journey by viewing the video below.

This year, Lucas Oil Center was able to provide Angie and her family with $7,000.00 to be used toward her continued treatment.

Lucas Oil Center is proud to be a sponsor of Tri-State Speedway and the Harvest Cup, which is the last race of the season each year. Employees and friends were invited to the track on Saturday, October 8 for a fun night of racing and fellowship. But time was also taken out of the evening to bring awareness to Breast Cancer Month and the work being done to fund raise for this year’s recipient.

During race intermission, the team from Lucas Oil Center jumped into action and took up a donation collection for Angie’s fundraiser. Angie and her husband, Todd, are both members of the local racing community and the racing community really stepped up to help.

Angie along with Lucas Oil Center co-owner Bill Floyd and HR & Operations Manager April Maxey addressed the racing crowd from the announcer booth to explain the importance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Special thanks to track promoters Tom & Loris Helfrich for their hospitality. And thank you to all the race fans who made a donation.

The Pink69 Sliver Crown Dirt Champ Car also made an appearance at Tri-State Speedway to support Angie and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The crowd loved seeing (and hearing) the car and the kids loved being able to interact with the car up-close.

Lucas Oil Center dedicates a Saturday in October each year to hold a give back fundraiser day in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For this event, 20% of all car washes and auto service proceeds are donated back to the fundraiser recipient. This year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Give Back Day was held on Saturday, October 15.

The Lucas Oil Center team at both locations along with the Nitro Car Wash crew were very excited to raise money for Angie and her fight. Both locations saw a great turnout from customers. The car wash also did an excellent job taking donations.

HAUNTED CAR WASH 2022

For the second year, Lucas Oil Center and the Nitro Car Wash were overrun with ghouls as part of our Haunted Car Wash. A portion of the proceeds from the event also went back to Angie and her battle with breast cancer. The Lucas Oil Center crew went all out this year and put in many hours ahead of the event to create our many props that lined the lot as customers approached the main attractions.

The employees really got into the spirit of Halloween this year, dressing as evil clowns as part of the CARnival of CARnage. Even with it being a bit cold and a little rainy, everyone really got into the event and loved doing it for the community and for a great cause.

A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to all of the employees who participated in being the scariest clowns in town. Also, a big thank you to John Maier at Boone Funeral Home for providing a hearse to park in front of the building, to Michael Halas for providing sound around the property the night of the event, to the Southern Indiana Storm Softball Team, to Tri-State Drones for taking video footage from the air, to HOT96 for coming out the nights of the event, to Alec Knies for taking photos, and to Claire Ballard for her coverage of the event on social media. We really appreciate all of the help making this an amazing event.

October was super busy for the crew at Lucas Oil Center, but it was worth it to help provide much needed funds to the Fields family. And because of the overwhelming success this year, the haunted car wash will be back in 2023. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported any of the events or those who donated their money or time. Lucas Oil Center looks to make next October bigger and better.

If you know someone who is battling breast cancer and would like to be a part of our event in 2023, please contact April Maxey, HR/Operations Manager at info@lucasoilcenter.com.
